Details
Description:
A beautiful small very fine or much better coin. This Egyptian coin, which is dated 1277 AH year 9 of Sultan Abdul Aziz's reign is small and made of 0,833 silver. The coin was struck in Egypt while Egypt was under Ottoman Rule. It is a 20 para or half a Qirsh silver coin. This beautiful silver coin depicts the toughra of Abdul Aziz (the Ottoman Sultan, in Turkey, at the time) on the obverse with a rose to its right and denomination below it. The reverse has the Legend "Duribah Fee Misr 1277" or struck in Misar, which is Fustat on the outskirts of current day Cairo the capital of Egypt, and shows that it was struck in the 9th year of Abdul Aziz's reign, translating to 1870. The year 1277 AH ( 1861 AD) is the year when Abdul Aziz became sultan. The coin has great eye appeal and looks great. It is KM 247, weighs ~0.6 gram and is ~15 mm. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date:
1870.
Mint:
Misr or Fustat on the outskirts of Cairo the current capital of Egypt.
Size and weight:
This is a 20 para or half a Qirsh measures about 15 mm and weighs about 0.6 grams.
References:
It is KM #247.
Condition:
I would grade this coin as very fine or better with all the details being very well preserved and has nice eye appeal. The coin has great eye appeal with some soiling. It is much better than the scan shows. It does have minor scratches, and wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. It also has a surface stain to within the D of Duribah on the reverse and other dark spots on the reverse dues to the embedding of dirt into the calligraphy. Please see photo for additional condition information.
