Description:
An extremely fine or much better 1277 AH or 1865 AD Egyptian, while under Ottoman Rule, 20 para or half a Qirsh bronze coin. The coin depicts the toughra of Abdul Aziz (the Ottoman Sultan, in Turkey, at the time) on the obverse, without rose to its right and denomination below it. The reverse has the Legend "Duribah Fee Misr 1277" or struck in Misar, fustat on the outskirts of current day Cairo the capital of Egypt, and shows that it was struck in the 6th year of Abdul Aziz's reign, translating to 1865. The year 1277 AH ( 1861 AD) is the year when Abdul Aziz became sultan. The coin is very nicely toned. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Size and weight:
This is a 20 para or half a Qirsh measures about 31.5 mm and weighs about 12.5 grams (note that Krause' Catalog suggest the coin should weigh 11.76 grams,, while only later issues weigh 12.5 grams).

Condition:
I would grade this coin as an extremely fine or better with all the details being very well preserved and has nice eye appeal. The coin is beautifully toned. It is much better than the scan shows. It does have minor scratches, and wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. It also has a light surface scratch to the left of the P of para on the obverse, which is not as prominent as the scan suggests. The coin is beautiful and has great eye appeal.
