Details
Description:
A great looking about uncirculated or much better bronze coin from Egypt. This is a one-fortieth of piastre or qirsh from the reign of Abdul Hamid II the Ottoman Sultan. The coin shows the sultan's tughra, a rose to the right of the tughra, the number 33 for the 33rd year of Abdul Hamid II's reign below it on the obverse. The reverse says Duribah Fi Misr (struck in Egypt) then the word Rub'a Min 'Ashr al Qirsh (quarter of a tenth of a qirsh) with Abdul Hamid accession year of 1293 AH below it and stars on both sides. It is KM-287 measuring approximately 17 mm in diameter and weighing 2 grams. The coin has a plain rim. Coins of such small denomination and small size are usually hard to come by in such a nice grade. They normally were used extensively by the people and were lost or severely abused. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date:
1907 AD - 1293 AH year 33 of Abdul Hamid II's reign.
Mint:
Egypt. Actually this coin was struck in Birmingham England as evidenced by the "H" on the bottom of the obverse.
Size and weight:
This is a 1/40 piastre or Qirsh and is ~17 mm in diameter and weighs 2 grams.
References:
It is KM #287.
Condition:
I would grade this coin as an about uncirculated or much better with all the details being well preserved. The coin is golden in color and has nice eye appeal. The coin has a few bag marks and a few minor stains, which can be seen in the scan. It is much better than the scan shows. It has minor wear, if any, commensurate with its age and circulated status. The coin has excellent eye appeal and is beautiful. Please see photo for additional condition information.
