    Description

    This coin was issued under
    King Bela II
    (
    1131-1141 AD
    ) in Kingdom of
    Hungary
    .
The Hungarians, led by Arpad, settled the
    Carpathian Basin
    in
    895

    Principality of Hungary
    (896-1000).
The principality was succeeded by the Christian Kingdom  with the coronation of St. Stephen on Christmas Day 1000.
The first kings of the kingdom were from the
    Arpad Dynasty (1000-1301).
    Bela the Blind
was King of Hungary and Croatia from 1131 to1141.  He was blinded along with his rebellious father Almos.
    Bela
    grew up in monasteries
during the reign of Coloman's son Stephen II.
He was crowned king at least two months after the death of Stephen II.
His blindness prevented him from administering his kingdom without assistance.
He put his trust in his wife and her brother Belos.
