Description:
A nice very fine or much better copper coin from Egypt. This is a five para from the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Majid. The coin shows the sultan's tughra on the obverse with a rose to its right and the denomination under it. There is also a nice decorative floral design below the denomination. The reverse says Duribah Fi Misr with the number 6 above the beh in duribah and the year 1255 AH under it all. The reverse also shows the number 6 over the beh, which stands for the 6th year of Abdul Majid's reign translating to 1844. The year 1255 AH is Abdul Majid's accession to the throne. The reverse has a floral decoration consisting of roses all along the edge. It is KM-223 measuring approximately 21 mm in diameter and weighing ~6.8 grams. The coin has a plain rim and what I would characterize as a thick flan with a raised edge. The coin has edge damage which we believe is an artifact of the minting process. Coins of such small denomination and small size are usually hard to come by in such a nice condition since they normally were used extensively, melted for their metal content, were lost or severely abused. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date:
1844 AD - 1255 AH year 6 of Abdul Majid's reign.

Egypt.
Size and weight:
This is a 5 para and is ~21 mm in diameter and weighs ~6.8 grams.
References:
It is KM #223.
Condition:
I would grade this coin as a good very fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The coin has a nice brown reddish patina and good eye appeal. The coin has some wear to the high points, but is still very evident and readable. The surface has a few minor green stains, which can be seen in the photos. The obverse, in our opinion, is in slightly better condition when compared to the reverse. The main issue with the piece is damage to the rim, which is obvious at 8 O'clock. This damage appears to be an artifact of the minting process or original to the flan itself and does not appear to have occurred due to circulation and abuse. Other than that the coin is all there in great original condition with no alterations or enhancement. The coin is much better than the photos shows showing honest wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. Please see photo for additional condition information.
