Details
Description:
A beautiful extremely fine or better one year type 1348 AH or 1929 AD Egyptian two piastres rare silver coin. The coin depicts the bust of King Fuad or Fouad the first (who ruled Egypt during the British occupation) facing left. He is wearing a uniform and a fez and has the words Fouad the first King of Egypt along the edge on the obverse. The reverse has the words "Al Mamlkah Al Mesryah" (Kingdom of Egypt) in the center in beautiful calligraphy surrounded by the denomination and the date in years AD (1929) and AH (1348). The letter "BP.' also appears on the bottom of the reverse. This is a relatively rare coin with low mintage of only 500,000, which is rather low for such a low denomination. Please carefully review scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date:
1929.
Mint:
Egypt (actually the coin was minted in Hungary and has the mint mark BP on the reverse for Budapest, Hungary). Only 500,000 of this coin were minted.
Size and weight:
This is a one year type 2 piastres, which is approximately 19 mm in diameter and weighs ~2.8 gm of 83.3% silver. The coin has a reeded rim.
References:
It is KM #348.
Condition:
I would grade this coin as a beautiful extremely fine or better. The details are all well preserved and readable. The coin is better than the scan shows. It does have scratches, and bag marks, which can be seen in the scan. It also has embedded soiling within the lettering. The coin has little wear to the high points and looks much better than the scan suggest. The coin is nicely toned and has nice eye appeal. It has wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. Please see photo for additional condition information.
