McLaren Consolidated Cone Corporation, Dayton Ohio.
Italian immigrant James Denaro founded the Automatic Cone Co. in 1903 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and went on to invent the Icy-Pi, a square pocket-type cone that fits around a square of ice cream. His company manufactured both the cones and the scoops required to fill them.
For several years following its debut in 1925, the Icy-Pi was something of a national phenomenon. But in a battle with the functional familiar, novelty seldom wins, and eventually the square scoops were thrown in a drawer and the ice cream cone — not pocket sandwich — became the American standard.
